Dubna – the world-famous science city

Founded in 1956

The young and dynamic science city of Dubna has earned an international reputation with fundamental research in microworld physics, aircraft engineering, rocket technology and innovative production.

This is the only Russian city to be immortalized in the Mendeleev Periodic Table of Elements – the 105th element is called Dubnium to honor the discovery of the Dubna scientists.

Dubna is one of the largest innovation centers in Russia, the home to the internationally acknowledged Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), where scientists from many countries work fruitfully.

JINR

Today, JINR is creating NICA (Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility), the mega-science class project unique to the Russian Federation. Dubna State University is the official participant, tasked with personnel training and research.

Infrastructure

The city is home to over 700 enterprises. The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is developing successfully. It houses the largest number of residents in the Russian Federation. Over the last 10 years, more than 100 industrial and social facilities have been built.

Dubna is a city of healthy lifestyle. The residents have access to more than 48 kinds of sports, such as swimming, volleyball, football, basketball, tennis, athletics, weightlifting, sambo, karate, aikido, boxing, triathlon, table tennis, chess, aquabike and skiing.

Dubna has always been attracting creative and open-minded people. Famous poets, musicians, directors and actors have been visiting us for many years. Dubna has welcomed Vladimir Vysotsky, Yuri Lyubimov, Andrei Voznesensky, Yuri Vizbor, Bella Akhmadulina, Bulat Okudzhava, Robert Rozhdestvensky, Arseny Tarkovsky, Yevgeny Yevtushenko and many others.

Dubna is a city of culture and creativity. City holidays and regional festivals, theatrical performances and intellectual games, concerts of classical and popular music, exhibitions and quizzes are held on a tight schedule. This gives people an opportunity to have fun and unlock their creative potential.
